EDUCATIONAL LEADER FOR GREEN APPLICATIONS IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY!

The Atlantic Technical Center Auto Collision, Repair and Refinishing Program is the only program in South Florida authorized by BASF to teach the Onyx HD waterborne paint system, reducing basecoat solvent emissions by 90 percent!  

 

Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing

The Auto Body Collision Repair program includes specialized classroom and lab experiences concerned with all phases of the repair of:

  • Damaged vehicle bodies and fenders
  • Straightening by hammering
  • Smoothing areas by filling, grinding, sanding
  • Concealment of imperfections
  • Replacement of body parts and components including glass
  • Frame and unibody squaring and aligning
  • Paint systems and undercoats
  • Trim and hardware installation and maintenance
  • Welding, and Mechanical skills

Auto Body Collision Repair instruction and training also includes:

  • Use of parts
  • Repair print manuals and computerized manuals
  • Price lists
  • Flat-rate manuals in estimating and pricing to customers
  • Record keeping
  • Shop safety and housekeeping.

Instruction in Auto Body Collision Repair and Refinishing is comprehensive and includes the five (5) areas of specialization recognized by the Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for professional technician certification in Auto Body Collision Repair and Refinishing.  Students are encouraged to participate in the ASE Certification testing program during their training.  The five ASE areas are:

  • Structural Analysis and Damage Repair
  • Non- Structural Analysis and Damage Repair
  • Mechanical and Electrical Components
  • Plastics and Adhesives
  • Painting and Refinishing

 

Completion Time
The Auto Body Collision Repair program is competency-based. Completion time depends on the progress of each individual. The standard length of this program for the average achieving student is 1400 hours.

 

Industry Certification & State Credential Exams

Completing students will be eligible to take the following:  5 areas of ASE including Structural Analysis & Damage Repair, Non Structural Analysis & Damage Repair, Mechanical & Electrical Components, Plastics & Adhesives, and Painting & Refinishing; I-CAR; and State of Florida Ready to Work.

 

College Credit Transfer Opportunity and / or Advanced Credit

Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, students may be awarded up to twenty-seven (27) college credits by Broward College toward an A.S. or A.A.S. Degree in Industrial Management Technology.
